The Culture of Design, 2nd revised edition.
So what's new?
This second edition of The Culture of Design has provided an opportunity for a thorough overhaul. This includes the following.
- An all-new Chapter 1 that sets forward a polemic about what Design Culture is, how it differs from Visual Culture and approaches to studying it.
- An updated theoretical approach, including discussions of the 'New Economy', financialisation, practice theory, domestication, aesthetic and emotional labour.
- A new case study of the iPod.
- An extended final chapter that discusses the role of design in urban regeneration and socially participative approaches to design.
It also sports a new cover, again designed by Jo Hassall.
This is what the European Journal of Cultural Studies said about the first edition: `Julier provides an important contemporary account of how design disciplines act and interact in the world…. an important resource for the student of design… perfection as a cultural studies text'
