The Culture of Design, 2nd revised edition.

So what's new?

This second edition of The Culture of Design has provided an opportunity for a thorough overhaul. This includes the following.

  1. An all-new Chapter 1 that sets forward a polemic about what Design Culture is, how it differs from Visual Culture and approaches to studying it.
  2. An updated theoretical approach, including discussions of the 'New Economy', financialisation, practice theory, domestication, aesthetic and emotional labour.
  3. A new case study of the iPod.
  4. An extended final chapter that discusses the role of design in urban regeneration and socially participative approaches to design.

It also sports a new cover, again designed by Jo Hassall.

This is what the European Journal of Cultural Studies said about the first edition: `Julier provides an important contemporary account of how design disciplines act and interact in the world…. an important resource for the student of design… perfection as a cultural studies text'
